Our sympathy goes to the American Heartland Theatre and to Jane Fopeano for the shooting death of actor Peter Fopeano Tuesday evening in Kansas City, Kansas. Peter was Jane's son. He was scheduled to act in several upcoming plays at the American Heartland Theatre. To learn more about Peter's death, go to today's KC Star newspaper, page B2.

"by invitation" magazine ( November -December 2008) has two pages, pages 34 - 35, dedicated to The New Theatre Guild's "Celebrating the Arts" benefit at Richard Carrothers' home. There are 17 photos included in the article.

November 23 -

There are two great articles in the Kansas City Star about "BOEING-BOEING". The first one was in yesterday's KC Star, page F2, entitled "Classic Farce takes flight" by Derek Donovan. In today's Star, there are two full pages, H1 and H6, talking about the play. The article is entitled "What a Farce!" by Robert Trussell. It is an excellent article. Do not miss reading them.

The benefit at Richard Carrothers' home was WILDLY SUCCESSFUL! It ranks up with the very best events ever put on by The New Theatre Guild. It was truly an elegant and special evening. The host was gracious. The food and music excellent. The home beautiful. The weather perfect.

Our congratulations to the benefit co-chairs: Betty Bushman and Paula Simkins, and to their committee members: Betty Scherzinger, Darlene Cowherd, Delores Fiorella, Carolyn Hanson, Mary Heausler, Shirley Heilman, Judy Horn, Maggie Jacobs, Lon Lane, Jeanne McDowell, Judy McLeroy, John Pearce, Sharon Pearce, Don Watkins, Susan Watkins, Kemp Weise.

Photos and further details will be posted on the History page in the hours and days to come.

What a fantastic evening! It will be one talked about for years to come!

September 27 -

Francey Yarborough has just donated $5000 to the Don Knotts fund. As you probably already know, she is Mrs. Don Knotts. As mentioned on other pages on this website, Don Knotts holds a special place in the hearts of New Theatre Guild members. He supported The New Theatre Guild, and was a great friend of Dodie Brown. Francey will be attending tonight's benefit at Richard Carrothers' home.

September 26 -

Betty Bushman has just donated $10,000 to create a new fund named after her daughter. The fund is to be called the "Michelle Bushman" fund. It is directed towards the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Our deepest thanks to Betty for helping us increase The New Theatre Guild's support of theatre students.

September 26 -

The weather looks like it will be perfect for the Richard Carrothers' benefit tomorrow night. Most of the event will be in Richard's home and on his balcony. Be prepared for a very memorable evening! Special photographers will be taking pictures, so you will not have to be bothered by taking your own. In fact, personal cameras are being discouraged, as this is Richard's private home, and we need to respect his wishes to maintain his privacy. It is quite nice of him to open his home for this New Theatre Guild benefit!

September 22 -

Nothing was mentioned on the invitations to the Richard Carrothers' benefit as to what is appropriate to wear. Some attendees have been asking. The benefit committee at their last meeting suggested that men wear a jacket (tie optional) and that the ladies wear a dress similar to attire worn for an evening at the New Theatre Restaurant. The committee referred to this as "country club casual".

September 21 -

There is a great article in the Star Magazine section of the Kansas City Star today entitled "Guild-ing the theatre with new students" by Ann Spivak. It talks about the Richard Carrothers benefit and The New Theatre Guild. The article is on page 17.

September 21 -

We hope you saw the article about Marion Ross and Paul Michael in today's KC Star newspaper. It is on the front page of the Arts & Entertainment section, and continued on page B8. It is very complimentary of them and the play "THE LAST ROMANCE" currently playing at the New Theatre Restaurant. This play was written by Joe DiPietro especially for Marion and Paul. It will probably go to New York after it finishes at the New Theatre. (This is a great play and not to be missed!)

September 20 -

Joyce Fox has just made a donation of $10,000 into the Dodie Brown fund. Our highest thanks goes to Joyce for this generous donation. The Dodie Brown fund, as you may know, is directed toward theatre students at the University of Kansas.

September 18 -

Ed See has just made a donation of $10,000 in memory of his late mother, Mary. The fund reflects her maiden name of Wyram. The fund is called "The Mary Wyram Family Scholarship fund" has shall be directed each year to theatre students at the University of Central Missouri. To learn more about Dr. Ed See, click here:
